Choir of the Children’s University Cologne

Germany

The KölnerKinderUni choir was founded in 2012 to mark the 625th anniversary of the University of Cologne and today brings together 23 children and young people (aged 8-14) under the direction of Jana Stahl. The choir is accompanied by Michael Köster (voice training) and Lilli Schlag (piano accompaniment). The wide-ranging repertoire encompasses diverse musical cultures and eras: in addition to well-known children’s choir literature, the choir also performs modern music, improvisations, world premieres and music theatre. The singers also take part in themed seminars and lectures at the KölnerKinderUni, where they learn about the content and background of the music at an age-appropriate level. Two self-composed songs – Einsamkeit (2024) on the topic of individuality in the community and Wir sind frei (2025) on the topic of democracy – demonstrate the choir’s creative and collaborative profile. Both songs will be performed at the festival.
