Choir of the Children’s University Cologne

Germany

The choir of the Children’s University Cologne was founded in 2012 on the occasion of the 625th anniversary of the University of Cologne. It is run as a co-operation of the Collegium Musicum and the Children’s University Cologne, with a membership of around 50-60 enthusiastic singers aged 8 to 16. They engage with a wide repertoire, from well-known literature for children’s choirs to contemporary music and improvisations as well as first performances and musical theatre. Alongside this practical work, the singers engage with the contents and backgrounds of the music they sing in seminars and lectures, appropriate to their ages, at the Children’s University Cologne. Thus the children experience music through their own singing, improve their singing standards through individual vocal training and, by occupying themselves with the subject matter, gain a deeper understanding of the music they perform.
